First Saturday in Denver

Yesterday we had our first time off from training, so it was a very event-filled day!  The entire Corps had a service project in the morning with the Denver Park and Rec.  The Alpine Unit worked to pull out old flowers in the beds in one neighborhood, and then turn the soil to get it ready for next spring.  After the service, my temp team took a trip to Red Rocks Amphitheater and Park.  The venue is absolutely gorgeous, as well as the surrounding park.  We took a hike through part of the park, and looked around the museum.  The history of the amphitheater is very interesting, especially to us, because it was built in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and the Works Progress Administration (WPA).  AmeriCorps NCCC is very similar to the CCC, and has many of the same goals, philosophies, and inner workings.  There is even a statue outside of the concert venue in honor of the CCC and the work they put into building the venue.  Overall, the day was very enjoyable and is a great memory!
