The Evergreen State

The second half of the spring break trip was spent in Washington State.  Emily and I took the train from Portland to Olympia on Tuesday afternoon, where I met up with my friend Maddy from AmeriCorps.  On Wednesday, she showed us around Olympia.  We saw the capital building and took a short hike to look at the Puget Sound.  It was so nice to see her again! We took another train, this time up to Seattle, on Thursday morning.  When we got there, we went to the Museum of History and Industry.  We went to the museum for an exhibit on Seattle’s food industry and culture, but the rest of the exhibits were really interesting as well.  That night, we saw a musical performance of Little Women at the Seattle Musical Theatre.  On Friday, we went to Chihuly Garden and Glass, which is a collection of stunning glass pieces done by Washington native Dale Chihuly. The Pacific Science Center is nearby, so we stopped by that as well.  In the afternoon, the clouds miraculously parted and the rain stopped, so we went up the Space Needle.  The view was breathtaking!  The last thing we did was explore the Pike Place Market, which is filled with vendors selling everything from glass blown ornaments to fresh fish to crumpets. Thank you to Maddy and Ryan for hosting us in Olympia!!
